Lesson Summary:

What we repress doesn't disappear. It finds another way out.

  • No matter how much someone suppresses guilt, shame, or the consequences of their actions, the subconscious always remembers. Repressed emotion and unresolved behavior surfaces: in sleep, in the next relationship, in back pain, migraines, digestive issues, anxiety. The body keeps score, always.

  • This applies to everyone, including the person who hurt you. You don't need to wish them harm. You don't need karma to deliver justice. It is already happening, whether you can see it or not.

You never know what goes on behind closed doors.

  • If your ex has moved on quickly and seems fine, resist the urge to compare their apparent happiness to your healing process. You are seeing their outside. You have no access to what is happening inside them, or what their next relationship will really look like beneath the surface.

  • It is worse to be someone who cannot face themselves than to be the person doing the hard work of looking in the mirror. That is what you are doing. That is the harder and more courageous path.

Focus on your path, not theirs.

  • Watching someone else's life and wondering why they seem to be getting away with it is one of the fastest ways to stall your own healing. Their journey is theirs. Yours is yours. And yours is the only one you have any real influence over.

  • The goal is not to reach a place where you wish them harm, or even where you wish them well. The goal is detachment: arriving at a place where you simply don't have a strong charge either way. You may not be there yet, and that's okay. It comes with time and with doing this work.

Remember:

No one gets away with anything. The subconscious always remembers. You don't need to monitor their path or wait for justice. It is already unfolding. Allow them to have their path. Focus on yours.
